I haven't posted in awhile because I haven't had anything to say. Things continue to go quite well with the pregnancy. He's very active and I'm still able to go into the office about two hours a day. I hurt my back last week which has been pretty painful but other than that no complaints. Well, one...
You would think that with all the down time I have I'd be reading good books and enriching my mind. Nope, nothing doing. I read shit magazines and watch horribly bad television. If I told you I put Dr. Phil on my tivo season pass would you believe me? I hope for my sake that it is unbelievable -- but it is true. Or was true. I just cancelled it.
So, if you wander by and have some recommendations of good books to read, I'd love any recommendations. I was a lit major, love to read but for some reason can't pick up anything that doesn't automatically make me dumber. Help me, please. This has to stop.

Well, the books I can suggest will make you dumber too, probably, but they are a good read when you are doing not much else.
THe Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton. There are like, 13 books right now, and she's writing the newest at the moment.
It's corny, vampire hunter, zombie raising, very easy read stuff.
Only one "problem" with the books, they get very sexual after a while, like near book 4 or 5.
Still, a great read, very easy, its romance, but not.
I just read Cast of Shadows and although not the greatest stint of literature, it was entertaining and I didn't feel any dumber having read it - which is usually the case with the James Patterson books. I have quite a few travel essay books in mind if that is your thing...Bill Bryson type writing - funny and great reading.
The Red Tent was an interesting read while pregnant. Glad to hear you are doing well!
Delurking bcs I can't help myself now. I don't really know what you like to read but here goes:
Eve Dallas' books (JD Robbs) for non-demanding, kick-ass fun.
Pat Conroy's Beach Music, Lords of Discipline and Prince of Tides (NOTHING like the movie) - he writes beautifully but it's not all beautiful, so don't touch if feeling tender, maybe.
Anne Perry's mysteries (Victorian setting, highly entertaining)
(If you like thrillers I have loads more but don't want to hog)
Elinor Lipman's The Inn at Lake Devine
Princess Leia's (forget her real name) Postcards from The Edge (again, nothing like the book, I found it rather funny)
If you like SciFi, Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels, Get Off The Unicorn, The Ship That Sang
Piers Anthony I find also light and funny enough to allow me to wind down and sleep.
ALL Harry Potters
James Herriot's books (he's a vet in Yorkshire, beautifully and rather humbly written, if you like animal stories)
Could you add your tastes to the post? I read loads so maybe I could help more if I knew what you like, don't want to go on and on andmention only books you either don't like or already read, maybe.

I would suggest "Daughter of the Blood" by Anne Bishop. It's Fantasy, but WOW. It is SO good. It's the first of three books.
I read them while on bedrest with my son and I've gone BACK to read them a few more times since then (2 years).
I read a lot of books, mostly fantasy, and I can honestly say that she is an amazing writer, not to mention that this story is huge in scope. She covers so much.
Also I have to put in a second hit for Anne McCaffery's Pern novels. I would start with Dragonsflight personally. Another great series of books...and you'll have PLENTY to read there (at LEAST 10 books, if not many more in that world).
